As an administrator using the Plesk Web Hosting 6.0 software, you can perform a variety of web server management tasks in a few clicks. Click the web server button located at the top of the screen to bring up the web server Administration page.
This chapter describes what the Plesk Web Hosting admin can do to manage to a certain degree various services installed on web server. Plesk Web Hosting service management capabilities include the mail system management, Domain Name Server zone templates management, PostgreSQL admin account setup. You can also easily start/stop/restart specific services right from the Plesk Web Hosting interface.
The Mail System Management page allows the administrator to set the parameters for various mail services on the web server. The following settings can be adjusted from this page:
Maximum letter size - this field can be used to set the maximum allowable size of any email received on the web server. If this field is left empty, or zero is entered, then the maximum allowable size is "unlimited".
Relaying - these fields are used to set the mail system relay mode. Relaying affects only the mail sending; it does not in any way change the way mail is received on the web server. Mail relaying can work in one of three modes: open relay, closed relay and relay with authorization.
Open relay - selecting this allows any host computer to utilize the mail services of any domain on the web server, to send and/or receive mail. In this mode, no password is required.
Closed relay - selecting this only allows mail to be sent and received locally (to and from domains residing on the web server). The only exception would be hosts specified as allowable relay hosts in the White list.
Authorization is required - selecting this allows any host computer to utilize the mail services of a domain on the web server provided that a valid username and password are used to authenticate the mail user.
POP3 - requires a POP3 login before sending mail. The lock time field sets the allowed time given for sending mail after login. During the lock time, any email sent from the initial IP address will be accepted without requiring a password to be re-entered.
SMTP - smtp authentication (the Plesk Web Hosting mail system supports LOGIN, CRAM-MD5 and PLAIN methods of smtp authorization) requires a password every time you send an email.
White List - the White list is a list of IP-addresses with masks from which mail is always accepted.
Blocked - This section is used to identify mail domains from which you do not allow mail to be received.
The Enable MAPS spam protection checkbox, when checked enables mail abuse prevention system to help you defend your customers from abuse by spammers.
The Mail Names for POP3/IMAP accounts section is used to define the type of mail account names that can be used on the web server.
